If Objects Could Talk: Semantic-Enhanced Radio-Frequency Identification

چکیده
We propose to extend basic RFID usage by storing semantically annotated data within RFID tags memory, so that objects may actually “describe themselves” in a variety of scenarios. In particular here we exploit our approach to carry out an advanced discovery process using annotations stored in RFIDs. A –fully backward compatible– modification to the original RFID data exchange protocol is presented, integrated in a semantic-enabled Bluetooth resource discovery framework. Motivations and benefits of the approach are outlined in a u–commerce

If objects could talk: a novel resource discovery approach for pervasive environments
We propose to extend standard Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) usage by storing semantically annotated data within RFID tags memory, so that objects may actually ‘describe themselves’ in avarietyof scenarios. Inparticularherewe exploit our approach to carry out an advanced matchmaking process using metadata stored in RFIDs. A ‘fully backward compatible’ modification to the original RFID da...
متن کاملA Ubiquitous Knowledge-based System to Enable RFID Object Discovery in Smart Environments
A ubiquitous Knowledge Base (u-KB) is a distributed and decentralized knowledge base where the factual knowledge (i.e. individuals) is scattered between objects disseminated within a given environment with no centralized coordination. Such a vision enables a truly pervasive environment where autonomous objects set up a self-organized discovery architecture. This paper presents an extended frame...
متن کاملSemantic Connection between Everyday Objects and a Sensor Network
This paper proposes middleware for achieving a semantic sensor network. It generates logical descriptions of the state of environments based on sensors attached to everyday objects. What a sensor network must do to describe an environment is to connect sensory readings with the everyday objects logically. We must prepare information about the logical connection even though they are physically c...
متن کاملStakeholder perspectives on relationship between factors affecting readiness for radio frequency identification implementation
Introduction: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a type of automatic identification technology which uses radio waves for collecting and transferring data. Due to extensive use in tracking and identifying people and objects, this technology has been able to solve many of the hospital's problems and help to increase the quality of delivery of services. The aim of this study was to survey t...
متن کاملEnhanced RFID Mutual Authentication Scheme based on Synchronized Secret Information
Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) is an automatic identification system, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data about objects we want to manage using devices called “RFID tag”. Even though RFID system is widely useful for industrial and individual applications, RFID tag has a serious privacy problem, i.e., traceability. To protect users from tracing, we propose an RFID mutual authe...
